Vatican City - The late pope John Paul II is featured in an animated cartoon aimed at children that premiered at the Vatican on Tuesday.
The hourlong cartoon was created in Barcelona, Spain, by the Cavin Cooper Productions in collaboration with Vatican television CTV. Titled John Paul II, the Friend of All Humanity, it is available in several languages.
It was unveiled at a Radio Vatican studio by Monsignor Patrick Foley, head of the pontifical council of social communications; CTV director and Vatican spokesperson Federico Lombardi and its author Jose Luis Lopez-Guardia.
John Paul II, who died April 2 2005 after 27 years as the head of the Roman Catholic Church, has been the subject of numerous books, documentaries and television films, but this is the first cartoon about him.
The cartoon covers his pontificate as well as his childhood in Poland as Karol Wojtyla, who was deeply pious and had a passion for sports and theatre.
