  • Kuala Lumpur - Teachers at a Malaysian school are under police investigation after some 120 girls were allegedly forced to lift their skirts as a form of disciplinary action, a news report said on Friday.

The pupils, aged 10 to 12 years old, were told on Wednesday to gather in the school hall after teachers found a used sanitary pad in the sink of the school lavatory.

When teachers failed to get the litterer to come forward, all the girls were sent to queue outside the toilets, where they were made to lift their skirts so teachers could check if they were menstruating, one of the young students was quoted by the New Straits Times daily as saying.

"The teachers paraded the students into the washroom and asked those wearing skirts to lift them up, while those in jeans to unzip," the student said.

Another girl told the daily: "I cried during the incident. ... It was embarrassing."

Several parents, enraged upon hearing about the incident from their children, lodged police reports against the teachers involved.

The state education department has pledged to investigate the matter and was awaiting a report from the school principle.
