Ipswich murders: Body IDed
14/12/2006 18:35 - (SA)
London - British police hunting a feared serial killer confirmed on Thursday the identity of a fourth murdered prostitute as 24-year-old Paula Clennell, one of two sex workers reported missing earlier this week.
She died of compression to the neck, they said. The news came as experts continued studying a second body found on Tuesday near the quiet English town of Ipswich, feared to be the fifth victim of a murderer, Annette Nicholls, 29.
Three sex workers were already confirmed to have been murdered - Gemma Adams, 25, 19-year-old Tania Nicol, and 24-year-old Anneli Alderton.
The case has evoked one of Britain's most notorious serial killers, east London's elusive "Jack the Ripper", who murdered five prostitutes in 1888.
The "Yorkshire Ripper", Peter Sutcliffe, also preyed on prostitutes, murdering 13 women between 1975 and 1980.
But the so-called "Suffolk strangler," as he has been dubbed, has worked much more quickly, with five naked bodies discovered in similar circumstances in the space of barely 10 days.
