Baby drowns while mom chats
15/12/2006 14:42 - (SA)
Sydney - A baby strapped in a pram rolled down an embankment and drowned in an Adelaide river on Friday while his mother chatted on a cellphone, news reports in Australia said.
Swimsuit model Kerry Lucas told a local television reporter that she had been on an early morning jog along the river bank when she stopped to take a phone call and then write a phone number on her leg because she had no paper.
"I was writing a number down and when I turned around the baby was gone," she was quoted as saying. "I just feel so stupid."
Lucas, unaware the pram had rolled into the river, thought someone had taken the pram with five-month-old Leonardo inside.
The pram was retrieved by police about 20 minutes later some 500m from where Lucas had stopped. - Sapa-dpa
