Madrid - The Spanish Christmas lottery - the world's biggest - showered millions of euros on Friday on gamblers around Spain as the number 20 297 netted the jackpot known as El Gordo ("the fat one").
The main prize was worth €3m in each of the 180 ticket series, making the entire jackpot worth €540m.
The winning number had been sold in places around Spain, including Madrid, Seville, Alicante, Benidorm and the Basque capital Vitoria.
The draw meanwhile continued, with millions of people huddled in front of television sets as children from the San Ildefonso school of orphans chanted the numbers winning other prizes.
