Clinton welcomes Obama move

Washington - US senator Hillary Clinton on Wednesday said she welcomed fellow Democratic lawmaker Barack Obama's announcement that he is seriously weighing a White House bid.
"It's terrific that we're going to have a very vigorous primary on both sides," Clinton - herself a prospective, although as yet unannounced White House candidate - told CBS television in an interview.
"The country needs a national conversation about where we're headed and how we're going to get there," the New York senator said.
Obama on Tuesday announced he would form a presidential exploratory committee, allowing him to raise campaign funds and gauge support for a White House run.
"I'm looking forward to a spirited and substantive debate about issues, about goals, about aspirations, about experience, about the kinds of things that voters will be interested in," Clinton said.
Obama said on Tuesday that after going on tour around the United States, he would announce his final decision about running on February 10 in Illinois - the state he represents as a US senator.
The move potentially sets up one of the most watched primary battles in decades, should Clinton, wife of former president Bill Clinton, also decide to run.
