Woman guilty of Psycho-attack
23/01/2007 19:20  - (SA)

London - A woman in Britain was found guilty on Tuesday of slashing a friend's love rival in a scene compared to the notorious shower attack in the horror film Psycho.

Carly Barrett and her friend Carrie McCarten, both 20, stormed into 18-year-old Paige Afellat's home in Liverpool, northwest England, while she showered.

The intruders pulled back the curtain and attacked Afellat - Barrett sliced her face with a blade while McCarten stabbed her arm with a broken bottle.

The jury at Liverpool Crown Court heard that the attack compared to the infamous shower scene in director Alfred Hitchcock's legendary 1960 suspense movie Psycho.

McCarten, who was two months pregnant when the attack took place last June, had heard that Afellat had been seeing her boyfriend.

Barrett denied the charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Following last week's trial, she was found guilty on Tuesday by a jury majority verdict of 10 to 2.

McCarten had earlier pleaded guilty to the same charge.

Barrett was granted conditional bail. She and McCarten will be sentenced in March.
