Los Angeles - Five suspected burglars were facing charges of animal cruelty on
Thursday after stuffing a Chihuahua into a freezer during a
break-in, police said.
The dog was discovered after being reported missing by its owner
as police investigating the burglary in Lancaster, north of Los
Angeles, rounded up the five suspects on Wednesday.
The dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment and was
expected to survive, police said.
The five people were arrested for burglary, cruelty to animals
and receiving stolen property. Under California law, animal cruelty
can be punishable by a one-year jail term and a fine of up to
$20 000.
