Baghdad - US forces have killed 18 insurgents in Iraq's western Sunni bastion town of Ramadi in two separate battles over the past two days, the military reported on Friday.

In the first incident on Thursday, US troops were attacked with small arms fire in the town and in heavy return fire the troops killed 15 insurgents, the military said.

On Friday three insurgents were killed in a similar way in Ramadi, it added.

The military said no civilian deaths were reported and made no mention of any military casualties.

Ramadi, the capital of the restive Sunni Al-Anbar province, is a hotbed of anti-US insurgency with US troops coming under regular attacks.
