Sittensen, Germany - The death toll from a shooting in a Chinese restaurant in northern Germany has risen to seven after a man died in hospital from severe gunshot wounds, police said on Tuesday.
He was found in the Lin Yue restaurant in Sittensen, a small town south of Hamburg, in the early hours of Monday among the bodies of three men and three women who had been tied up and shot dead.
Police said they had not expected the seventh victim to survive.
"I did not have much hope that I would be able to question him," a spokesperson said.
The dead are all believed to have been of Asian origin and included the owners of the restaurant and staff members.
A two-year-old girl survived the bloodbath unharmed.
Police said it was possible she had been in living quarters above the restaurant at the time of the murders and it is unlikely she will be able to help investigators to piece together what happened.
A police spokesperson said the motive for the crime remained a mystery.
"There has never been such a crime in northern Germany," he told reporters.
According to the police, there was no evidence that the restaurant had been the target of blackmail and there was no history of Chinese mafia activity in Lower Saxony, the state where it is situated.
