London - The first of the five prostitutes murdered by a serial killer in December last year in the Ipswich area, has been buried.
Annette Nicholls, 29, was remembered during a service at a cemetery in Ipswich, eastern England. About 50 people attended.
Her body was carried to the service in a hearse which bore a wreath spelling out the word: "Friend."
The naked corpses of Nicholls, Gemma Adams, 25, Anneli Alderton, 24, Paula Clennell, 24 and Tania Nicol, 19, were found dumped in the countryside around Ipswich within 10 days of each other.
The killings sparked a huge police manhunt and interest from across the globe. Ipswich, 130km northeast of London with a population of 140 000, had never before witnessed a murder inquiry on such a scale.
Steve Wright, 48, a former forklift truck driver from Ipswich, has been charged with all five murders. He was remanded until May 1 at a hearing last month.
