Spy's wife wants Putin's help
06/02/2007 23:17 - (SA)
London - The widow of murdered former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko has written to Russian President Vladimir Putin demanding he help the inquiry into his radiation poisoning death in London.
"I must find out who killed Sasha," wrote Marina Litvinenko in a letter seen by AFP, dated January 31.
"I ask that you instruct your officials to assist the UK authorities in bringing the murderers to justice."
Alexander Litvinenko fell ill on November 1, having been poisoned by the radioactive substance polonium-210, and died on November 23.
He accused Putin of masterminding his murder in an apparent death-bed letter - a charge the Kremlin has repeatedly denied.
"There are many rumours that the Russian authorities are not co-operating with the British authorities," wrote Marina.
"I remind you that you said that suggestions that the Russian state was involved in my husband's murder were 'absurd'.
"If you and the Russian state are not responsible for the murder, surely you should be doing everything possible to assist the British authorities in discovering who is guilty.
