Body found 16 months after Rita

Beaumont, Texas - A potential homebuyer inspecting a home damaged by Hurricane Rita over a year ago found the remains of the 51-year-old owner inside, authorities said.
Larry Euglon, whose body was found on January 27, was apparently a loner and foul play was not suspected, justice of the peace Vi McGinnis told the Beaumont Enterprise. Post-mortem results were pending.
"This is the most bizarre case I've ever handled," McGinnis, a justice of the peace for 20 years, said on Wednesday.
Neighbours said they thought Euglon had evacuated and never returned. The hurricane made landfall at nearby Sabine Pass on September 24, 2005.
The newspaper reported that the dining room table was set with placemats, china and wine glasses. Outside, a tree leaned on the roof and debris littered the yard.
McGinnis said authorities found Euglon's wallet on the dresser. That and conversations with his daughter helped identify him.
