Beijing - A Chinese man hacked his father to death with an axe before murdering his wife, children and granddaughter after being told off for getting drunk, state media said on Sunday.

Dong Gang, 29, slaughtered six family members in the massacre in Helong, a town in the northeastern province of Jilin, after being rebuked for a morning drinking spree, Xinhua news agency reported.

He was arrested on Sunday when he returned to his home, apparently intending to commit suicide, the report said.
