Blacksburg, Virginia - A shooting at a Virginia Tech dormitory on Monday left one person dead and one wounded, said a state government official with knowledge of the case.

The state university posted an advisory on its website advising students that a shooting had occurred at a residence hall and a "gunman is loose on the campus".

The university also told students to stay in their homes away from windows.
