Gun Free Zone 17/04/2007 10:40
VA Tech campus is a Gun Free Zone,by edict of the university authorities.Gun Free SA has made sure we have such zones in SA - and wished to make the entire country a gun-free zone. This tragic event, the work of a deranged person, is the direct result of authorities meddling in citizens right to self-defence by prohibiting the means of self defence. A single student carrying a handgun could have prevented this. - Freeman |

Sad 17/04/2007 11:57
its really sad to know that so many innocent people have died....students with vison.
But bigger question is society at large is becoming impatient and wants to move fast.
Lets practice what Gandhi, Jesus and Mother Teresa taught us. - Kish |

What is wrong with the world... 17/04/2007 12:22
Lots could have been done to prevent it...short term: put in metal detectors, search students, harsh punishments, etc. Long term however, who is really to blame? The parents and the authorities (government who makes laws)...Parents don't teach kids respect, discipline, or values. The people who make the laws, favour the criminals...you are not allowed to discipline your kids, you may get sued! It's ridiculous!!! Kids have no respect, no discipline anymore and definitely not enough values. FIX IT! - Michael |

Treat people you deal with, with respect! (and love) 17/04/2007 12:59
Not trying to defend the shooter,
but it is obvious that he/she had some issues with poeple (maybe fellow students or even his/her parent(s)).
It is most likely that some people treated him/her badly or in a humiliated fashion,
causing a LOT of anger and frustration that eventually made him/her perform this (re-)act.
I'm no shrink but, it comes down to the fact that we should treat EVERYONE around us with respect AND (how wierd it may sound) with some degree of love. Its our duty!

WE ARE HEADING THERE 17/04/2007 13:10
I AM NOT A PROPHET OF DOOM, BUT I HAVE NOTICED A HIGH NUMBER OF SCHOOL YARD ATTACKS IN SA. IF THESE ARE NOT ADDRESSED SOON WE MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING ALONG THESE LINES.THIS INCIDENT SHOULD SERVE AS A WAKE UP CALL.HOW VERY TRAGIC. - S'PHAMANDLA MKHIZE |

gee... 17/04/2007 13:31
yeah, let's ban guns. that way the only people who have them will be ones using them for illegal purposes (like this). and while we're at it, let's make the whole country a gun-free zone, so that the only people who have guns will be the ones who use them for illegal purposes (like this). Freeman: a single student carrying a handgun CAUSED this. My deepest condolences to the dead students' families. And with the person(s) that they will eventually and inevitably blame for it. - mike |

A society at war with itself 17/04/2007 14:30
This shooting demonstrates the complete failure of a society to instil values of acceptance and tolerance or to encourage meaningful alternatives to the expression of discontent. Not even the condemnation of such events by the nation's leaders embodies or communicates any meaning, because these very people lead by example- an example based too often on an irrational and short-sighted approach to any challenge, essentially summarised as a pride-based and short-lived emotional dominance. - Jane H |

Start with the parents 17/04/2007 14:41
I feel that this is the parents fold, reason being, not the right upbringing/Parents not being there for there children (Children feel that they can not speak to there parents about there problems. Problems that are taking its toll with no out let.) Children are not being raised like in the old days. Parents are slacking in the morels and disciple of yester year. - Crystelle |

Answer: Stop selling guns to civilians 17/04/2007 15:28
As a black African/black and I do not support the sale of guns to civilians. America has refused to back down despite people voicing their displeasure. they continue to arm people all over the world, Africans all over the world, go to any city u will find blacks gunning another. So I really feel they have to test their own medicine before they take decisive action. Stop selling guns to people u idoit Americans - mjeza |

i feel that something is going on in the younger generation for them to do such stupied things, how can somebody go and kill someone he had an argument with for no reason? so many inocent people or kids are getting killed because of other peoples insanity, i really do not find this fare or right at all. - Cnz |

Movie became real - Abuse of power 17/04/2007 18:43
Shootings and killings are part (or whole) of almost any movie shown nowadays. With what the shows are educating, it is no wonder we are seeing such a chaotic world today. Especially with gun so accessible, it is like having power to give people death sentence. Do we have to wait for one more person who abuses this power? - Cornelius |

The children are our future 17/04/2007 20:35
31 families lost a family member in this massive tragedy. I can't imagine what they must be going through and my heart goes out to them. You can't blame the parents. The majority of the brutal killings come from well respected families. We can however blame television, some sick music, and the fact that times have changed. Well really guys times have'nt really changed we have changed according to accomodate such evil deeds. My question is "Do our children have an opportunity to be the future" - Kimashni Govinder |

Now don't let us jump to any conclusions 17/04/2007 20:51
I am a South African living in the US the gun man was not American he is Korean. It is a very sad day here in the US, it's shocking to think many of those innocent students thought that they are just having a nother day at Varsity....many did not return home after that day. So please don't jump to any conclusions about the so called Yanks.....Think of the family's - Tash |

Amerika, ek was al daar, dis algemeen, julle is nie 'n wereld nie, slegs 'n vaste land, die ou wat julle mense geskiet het, bewys weer eens, julle land moet wakker skrik, wat hy gedoen het was verkeer, ek kan my nie indink as my kind in daardie plek was en geskiet was nie, maar waar los dit jou, Amrika is so sleg land, hulle dink hulle is die enigste planeet, en sodra iemand aan hulle iets aandoen, dan sit die wereld met hul problem, sorteer jul eie kak uit! - Kabous |

It all comes down to humanity 18/04/2007 03:10
