Moose to go back to Scotland
25/06/2007 19:25 - (SA)
Stockholm - After an absence of almost 1 000 years, moose were to be reintroduced to Scotland's wilds, the owner of a Swedish moose reserve said on Monday.
Sune Haggmark, who operates the Moose Garden near Orrviken in the northern Swedish province of Jamtland, said a moose cow called Nordis and a young male called Buster were to travel in November to Scotland.
Haggmark has sold his animals to multi-millionaire Paul Lister who also has plans to reintroduce wild boars and bears to a nature reserve on his estate, covering 23 000 hectares near Inverness.
Lister may likely have made a good bargain since Haggmark said Nordis would not leave until after the mating season - and encounters with the bull, Helge.
"My animals always get twins in captivity, so the Scots will already have four moose," Haggmark said.
Haggmark said the enclosure in the Scottish Highlands was "ideal" for moose and the animals would not suffer regardless how much it rains.
