S Korea to resume aid to North
26/06/2007 12:19 - (SA)
Seoul - South Korea said on Tuesday it will resume rice aid to impoverished North Korea, a day after Pyongyang said it would begin implementing a nuclear disarmament deal and allow a visit from the UN nuclear watchdog.
Food aid was suspended after Pyongyang defied international warnings and test-fired a barrage of missiles in July 2006.
South Korea said it will resume rice shipments from June 30.
The North battles chronic food shortages due to a mismanaged farm sector and has relied on handouts from Seoul to feed its people.
