Uncle raped, murdered toddler

London - The uncle of two-year-old Casey
Leigh Mullen pleaded guilty on Monday to her rape and murder.
Unemployed Michael Mullen, 21, was charged in February after
the toddler was found in a pool of blood at the family home in
Gipton, Leeds, in February.
He will be sentenced later at Leeds Crown Court.
Mullen was arrested and charged with the child's rape and
murder within days of her death. A post mortem found she died
from "compression of the neck".
Neighbours said they had heard a disturbance at the house
earlier that evening. Two men were seen banging the windows
before leaving the house.
The toddler's body was reportedly found by her mother,
Samantha Canham, in an upstairs bedroom. Family friend and
neighbour Sarah Pringle said she tried in vain to resuscitate
the toddler.
"All of a sudden, Sammy was screaming 'she's dead, she's
dead, someone's killed Casey,'" Pringle said in an interview
with the Sun. "I ran up to the bedroom and found Casey covered
in blood. Sammy picked her up and cradled her while crying
uncontrollably.
"Sammy was too shocked to give her mouth to mouth, so I did
it while we waited for an ambulance. She just kept crying that
someone had hurt her baby."
Friends and relatives described the toddler as a "little
angel".
