Suspect vehicle blown up in UK
03/07/2007 09:00 - (SA)
Glasgow - Bomb disposal experts on Tuesday carried out a controlled explosion of a vehicle parked near a mosque in Glasgow, police said.
"Police would wish to emphasise that there is nothing to suggest any connection between the mosque and the events over the last few days," a spokesperson for Strathclyde police said.
On Saturday, two men rammed a blazing car into the passenger terminal of Glasgow's airport in an attack linked to a foiled double car bombing in London the day before.
The experts were called during the night to the mosque in Pollokshields, a Glasgow suburb, and carried out a controlled explosion on the vehicle at about 05:00.
The area around the mosque was closed off, but local residents were not evacuated, police said.
