Brown boosts Labour

London - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's first two weeks in office has given his Labour party its biggest lead over the opposition Conservatives in nearly two years, according to a poll published on Sunday.
The ICM survey commissioned by The Sunday Telegraph put support for Labour at 40% compared to 33% for the Conservatives.
ICM poll results published in the News of the World Sunday indicated almost twice as many Britons thought Brown was better suited than Conservative leader David Cameron to lead the country.
It found 53% of people felt Brown was best equipped to lead Britain, compared to 27% for Cameron.
The results were the largest advantage for the Labour party in any poll conducted by ICM since September 2005, the pollster said.
Britain's next national election is not expected until 2009 or 2010, but Brown could call one sooner if he wanted.
ICM Research interviewed a random sample of 1 003 adults by telephone on July 11 to 13. No margin of error was given, but a sample of that size would normally have a margin of error of plus or minus 3%.
