Tokyo - A total of 50 cases of malfunctioning and trouble have been discovered at a nuclear power plant hit by an earthquake in northern Japan, the plant's operator said on Tuesday.
Cases included minor fires, broken pipes and water leaks triggered by Monday's magnitude-6.6 quake, said Tokyo Electric Power Co.
None of the 50 cases posed a threat to the outside environment or human health, according to company spokesperson Kensuke Takeuchi.
Takeuchi described all 50 instances as "minor troubles".
The Kariwa nuclear power plant at Kashiwazaki city, near the epicentre, is the world's largest in terms of power output capacity.
