Washington - US Senator Hillary Clinton continues to lead the field of Democratic presidential hopefuls, maintaining a double-digit advantage over nearest rival Barack Obama according to a poll published Monday.
A total of 34% of Democrats surveyed in the Washington Post/ABC News poll said they would vote for Clinton in the presidential primary, compared to 30% for Obama and 12% for former senator John Edwards.
In addition, 54% of Democrats said Clinton stood a better chance of beating a Republican candidate in the November 2008 election, compared to 22% for Obama, a senator from Illinois.
Only 37% of Republicans felt Clinton could beat a Republican candidate.
The former first lady has steadily led Democratic hopefuls in polls and fundraising ahead of next year's November general election vote.
The poll was released hours ahead of the Democrats' fourth televised debate, which was to feature questions from potential voters via the video-sharing website YouTube.
