  • Hyderabad - At least 42 people were killed and more than 50 injured in a string of blasts in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, officials said Sunday.

"The death toll now is 42. More than 50 people are being treated in various hospitals," said K Jana Reddy, home minister of Andhra Pradesh state, of which Hyderabad is the capital.

An explosion rocked a packed amusement park stadium where a laser show was under way in the mixed Hindu-Muslim city, while another bomb blew up a busy nearby food stall minutes later.

The explosions came three months after 11 people were killed in a bombing at Hyderabad's famed 17th-century Mecca Mosque.

Police have still not named any group as suspects for that attack which follows numerous bomb blasts across India in recent years which security forces blame on Islamic extremists from the disputed Kashmir region.
