Islamabad - Islamic militants ambushed several vehicles carrying dozens of soldiers in troubled northwestern Pakistan on Thursday, kidnapping at least 25 of them after snatching their weapons, officials said.
The soldiers were travelling between Wana, the main town in South Waziristan and Ladha, another town in the region, two intelligence officials said on condition of anonymity because of agency policy.
One of the officials said at least 25 soldiers were kidnapped, while the other said there were between 70 and 100 soldiers taken.
An army officer based near the capital, Islamabad, confirmed the incident, but provided no further details.
