Sister killed 'over clothes'
07/09/2007 20:58 - (SA)
London - A 14-year-old girl who killed her
older sister with a kitchen knife in an argument over clothes
and boyfriends was given a three and a half year custodial sentence on
Friday.
The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found
guilty of manslaughter by a jury at Bradford Crown Court.
She had stabbed her 16-year-old sister with a kitchen knife
at their Halifax home in West Yorkshire in March.
The blade penetrated her sister's lung and she died a few
hours later.
The 14-year-old admitted killing her sister but had denied
murder.
She will be held at a secure unit for young offenders.
"Neither the Crown Prosecution Service nor West Yorkshire
Police gain any solace from prosecuting a 14 year-old-girl for
killing her sister," said CPS prosecutor Malcolm Christy.
"If, however, anything can be gained from this case, it is
its use as an example of the tragic consequences of using knives
as weapons".
