  • Hong Kong - A man has been arrested in Hong Kong for stealing and drinking blood samples from a hospital, police said on Saturday.

The 29-year-old was reportedly caught on surveillance cameras in the early hours of Thursday morning as he stole three test tubes of blood from the Yan Chai Hospital laboratory.

He drank the vials and dumped the empty tubes in a rubbish bin in the hospital lift lobby before fleeing.

He was later arrested at his home after staff at the hospital noticed the theft and reported it to police.

A police spokesperson said the man had gone to the hospital after hurting his leg while drunk.

While there he wandered to the emergency laboratory and leant over a counter to steal the blood, which had been drawn from a female patient for testing.

The hospital authority was reported in the South China Morning Post to have already improved its blood collection procedures as a result of the incident. - dpa
