Moscow - A Russian man stabbed his elderly neighbour to death and started to eat her before being arrested, a media report said on Monday.

After sniffing methylbenzine, a solvent used to dissolve paint thinner, the 40-year-old man wanted to eat meat and "and knocked on the door of his elderly neighbour", a police spokesperson was cited as saying by the Interfax agency.

"After killing the 78-year-old woman by stabbing her with a knife in the chest, he started to eat her," she said.

"During interrogation the suspect admitted that he had killed his neighbour to eat her flesh."
