Map error blamed for crash Cruise captain: I felt ship slip

Virginia Beach - A captain ran a cruise ship aground off the Virginia coast early on Thursday after it began taking on water, trapping 66 people aboard, the US Coast Guard said.

The captain wanted to keep the ship from sinking, a spokesperson said. There were no reports of injuries.

Crew helped passengers get into smaller boats to take them to shore.

The ship, The Spirit of Nantucket, was on a 10-day cruise when it ran into trouble in the Intracoastal Waterway in a rural area of Virginia Beach.
