Student murder: DNA found
23/11/2007 10:54 - (SA)
Rome - Forensic police said on Thursday that the "partial DNA" of an Ivorian suspect in the murder of a British exchange student in Italy was found on a tampon in the victim's body, according to the Ansa news agency.
The same DNA was detected on toilet paper found in the bathroom of the Perugia flat where Meredith Kercher died after having her throat slit on November 1, Ansa reported.
The suspect, 21-year-old Rudy Guede, was arrested on Tuesday in Germany and was expected to be extradited to Italy by December 10.
An autopsy initially ruled out rape in the case.
Three other suspects were arrested on November 6 - Kercher's American housemate, Amanda Knox, 20, Knox's Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 24, and a Congolese musician and bar owner, Patrick Lumumba Diya.
Diya was released on Tuesday, hours after Guede's arrest, for lack of evidence.
