Licenced, but not to bite
29/11/2007 21:04 - (SA)
Paris - The owners of dogs considered dangerous, such as Pit Bulls and Rottweilers, will in future be required to have licences proving they can control them, French media reported on Thursday.
The National Assembly passed a law late on Wednesday requiring owners of these dogs to be able to prove that they can control their pets before their municipalities will grant them the licence.
The bill was inspired by a rash of fatal attacks by dogs on children over the past few months. There are more than 600 000 dangerous dogs in France.
The Senate must now approve the dog licence bill for it to enter into force.
