London - The wife of "back-from-the-dead" Briton John Darwin has been arrested after arriving back in Britain, a newspaper with close access to her since she was tracked down in Panama reported on Sunday.
"The wife of canoe man John Darwin has returned to Britain and been arrested by police," said the Daily Mirror on its website. The paper has published a series of interviews with along with the Daily Mail over the last few days.
Anne Darwin, 55, "is expected to be questioned by detectives later today," added the paper, which has apparently had a journalist accompanying her on her return from Panama via Miami.
On Saturday her husband, John Darwin, was charged with fraud a week after he resurfaced claiming he had lost his memory since vanishing five years ago following an apparent canoeing accident.
Darwin was presumed dead after disappearing in March 2002 near their home in Seaton Carew, north-eastern England.
But he reappeared last weekend, telling police officers that he could remember nothing of the last seven years, and believed himself to be a missing person.
His wife was tracked down to Panama City and initially claimed shock at his reappearance, before being confronted with a photograph of the couple from last year which had emerged.
