Man hides cocaine in false leg
11/12/2007 21:10 - (SA)
Frankfurt - German customs agents have arrested an amputee coming in on a flight from Brazil with 1kg of cocaine stuffed inside his false leg.
The agents, who patrol Frankfurt Airport with sniffer dogs, became suspicious when a faint trace of cocaine was detected on the 35-year-old one-legged man's hands.
They x-rayed his stomach, the usual hiding-place for drugs which the smugglers swallow in impervious sachets, but found nothing. So the man was sent to Frankfurt University Hospital to have his high-tech, metal leg examined.
Customs spokesperson Andreas Urbaniak said 198 sachets of cocaine had been packed around the metal stem inside the prosthesis. He is being held awaiting trial.
