'Crime wave' may hit NZ
22/12/2007 14:20 - (SA)
Sydney - A 29-year-old described by a Sydney court as a "one-woman crime wave" who has lived all but one year of her life in Australia looks set to be deported to New Zealand because of her long criminal record, news reports said on Saturday.
Patricia Toia has been sentenced to 30 jail terms and committed a further 56 offences when she was in jail.
Though she has never taken a driver's test or held a driving licence, her "appalling traffic record" disqualifies her from getting behind the wheel until 2060.
A tribunal hearing Toia's appeal against her deportation order described her as a "one-woman crime wave".
Toia, who was taken into immigration detention when she was released from jail in October, claims she is a reformed character - despite committing more crimes since receiving her deportation order.
"I want to do the right thing and abide by the law," she told The Sydney Morning Herald.
"I've got better things to do than crime." She has 28 days to appeal the deportation order before she is put on a flight to New Zealand. - Sapa-dpa
