Washington - Senator Barack Obama has taken the lead in an opinion poll published in Tuesday's Des Moines Register ahead of the Iowa state caucus to select a candidate from the Democratic Party for this year's US presidential election.
Obama can expect 32% of the votes in the Iowa caucus, the newspaper reported, while current favourite Senator Hillary Clinton would garner 25% and third place ex-senator John Edwards 24%.
The caucus on Thursday in the land-locked state of 3 million inhabitants marks the start of the primary and caucus marathon leading to the presidential election.
