Hyderabad - At least five people were trampled to death and 15 injured in a stampede on Thursday at a Hindu temple in southern India, a government minister said.

The stampede took place at a temple honouring the Hindu goddess Indrakala in Vijayawada, a city 270km east of the Andhra Pradesh state capital of Hyderabad, said state Endowments Minister Ratnakar Rao.

Five of the injured were in serious condition, Rao said.
