Des Moines - Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's oldest son, John Mark, was treated at a hospital and released after being injured in a car wreck on Friday, said officials.
The former Arkansas governor and his wife, Janet, campaigning in New Hampshire after his victory in the Iowa caucuses on Thursday, spoke with their son while he was in the hospital in Des Moines.
Huckabee said: "Janet and I are relieved that John Mark is all right. He will be stiff and sore from the accident, but doctors assured us he sustained no serious injuries."
John Mark Huckabee, 31, who had been in Iowa to help his father campaign, was traveling home to Arkansas with family friends David and Debbie Haak of Texarkana, Arkansas, when the accident took place on Friday morning, the campaign said in a statement.
The Haaks' car was traveling south on Interstate 35 when it was struck on the passenger side by a vehicle on an entrance ramp, the statement said. Witnesses called police and emergency workers.
Huckabee's son and the Haaks were taken to a hospital, treated for minor injuries and released. Police issued a citation to the driver of the car that struck the Haaks' vehicle, the statement said.
The Huckabees have two sons and a daughter.
