Tehran - An Iranian man left his wife outside to freeze to death in record-low temperatures in the northern city of Ardebil, the Fars news agency reported on Thursday.
The unnamed woman was thrown out of the house on Wednesday evening by her husband after a domestic dispute and then sought shelter under a footbridge, Fars said.
She was found dead in the morning, and the coroner ruled that she died from exposure to severe cold.
According to the official news agency IRNA, the city of Ardebil had its coldest night of the year on Tuesday with 25 degrees Celsius below zero.
Iranians have been facing unprecedented heavy snowfalls and the lowest temperatures in years, especially in the north and west of the country.
At least nine people have frozen to death in the cold snap, with several areas brought to a virtual standstill and dozens of towns suffering cuts in gas supplies.
