Kabul - A suicide bomb attack on a luxury hotel in the Afghan capital Kabul killed at least two guards on Monday, a police official said.
The five-star Serena Hotel in the centre of the city is mainly frequented by rich foreigners.
Two attackers threw hand grenades killing two guards to get past the outer security cordon and into the hotel compound where they exploded their vests, the police official said. He said he had no further information on casualties.
Another police official close to the scene also said the blast had happened inside the hotel compound.
A Western security source said guards had opened fire on the attackers outside the hotel.
Hardline Islamist Taliban militants carried out more than 140 suicide attacks in 2007 in their campaign to overthrow the pro-Western Afghan government and eject foreign forces from the country.
