Sarkozy's son 'was threatened'
15/01/2008 14:28  - (SA)

  • Sarkozy, Bruni married?
  • Sarkozy 'very energetic'
  • Sarkozy's son spins the decks
  • Paris - Two men have been arrested for threatening the life of French President Nicolas Sarkozy's youngest son, the website of the weekly Le Point reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, the threats were delivered via a cellphone to 10-year-old Louis Sarkozy, the son of the president and his ex-wife, Cecilia.

Cecilia Sarkozy and one of her daughters were questioned by police regarding the affair on Wednesday.

Investigators believe that, in August 2007, an employee for the telephone provider Orange gave the number of Cecilia Sarkozy's cellphone to her boyfriend, who passed it along to a friend of his.

The second man, a firefighter, made the call, and Louis Sarkozy answered because his mother had given him her phone.

The suspect called back several times, and on January 5 told the boy: "Now, you are going to die."

Terrified, the child informed his mother and sent an SMS to his father, the president, who notified the Paris public prosecutor, Jean-Claude Marin.

The subsequent investigation led to the two men, aged 21 and 22, who are scheduled to answer the charges in court next month.

Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie confirmed the report on Tuesday on Europe 1 radio. - Sapa-dpa
