Gaza in dark as plant shuts
20/01/2008 20:39 - (SA)
Gaza - The main power plant here shut down
completely on Sunday after Israel closed the borders of the
Hamas-controlled territory and blocked fuel supplies, said
Palestinian officials.
"We have just shut down the entire power plant," said Derar
Abu Sissi, general-director of the Gaza plant.
According to Israeli and Palestinian officials, Gazans
ordinarily consume 200 megawatts of electricity, of which 65 are produced by the local power plant. The rest comes from Israel, which was continuing the supply, and Egypt.
