London - Non-stop rain and heavy snowfall caused chaos on roads and rail networks in northern Britain Monday as more than 100 flood warnings were in place across the country.
In Yorkshire, in northern England, flooding caused the closure of main rail lines as motorway traffic was brought to a standstill.
In the city of Leeds, the river Aire threatened to burst its banks as the Environment Agency warned of "extreme danger to life" in the nearby town of Huddersfield.
Further north, in the counties of Cumbria and Lancashire, heavy snowfalls paralysed road and rail traffic on Monday.
