Taipei - The Taipei City Government began to give out free "firecracker CDs" on Monday to prevent firecracker-caused injuries during the upcoming Chinese New Year holidays.
Residents can get a copy of the "Environmental Friendly, Smokeless Firecracker CD" - which records the explosion of firecrackers - from the Taipei City Government, or have it mailed to one's home.
Taipei bans setting off firecrackers at public places of within 50 metres of schools, or causing noise pollution by exploding firecrackers.
The Chinese New Year holidays, also called the Spring Festival, begin on February 6, the New Year's Eve. It is a time for family reunion, visiting friends and exchanging gifts.
