Belgrade - Serbian President Boris Tadic has called an emergency meeting of the national security council, saying the riots that engulfed the capital overnight must "never happen again."

He said in a statement that "There is no excuse for the violence. Nobody can justify what happened yesterday."

The announcement comes after rioters attacked US and other Western embassies late Thursday to protest Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence last weekend.
