Cuba wary of US 'meddling'

Havana - Cuba's new president Raul Castro on Sunday vowed to be on guard against US "meddling" as he took power from his brother Fidel Castro.
"We have taken note of the offensive and openly meddling declarations by the empire and some of its closest allies," the new Cuban leader said, after winning the backing during a special session of the national assembly to succeed his brother.
Fidel Castro, 81, announced last week he was stepping aside, but was not present at the landmark session at which Raul, 76, was the only candidate put forward for the post.
