Abbas ready for Israeli truce
03/03/2008 20:02 - (SA)
Ramallah - Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas reiterated his willingness to seek a truce with Israel on Monday, after the army's deadly operation in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip.
"President Mahmud Abbas has again said today he is willing to work for the conclusion of a total truce with the Israeli side to spare our people more victims and suffering," his office said in a statement.
Abbas lost control of the Gaza Strip when the Islamist movement Hamas seized power in June after a week of deadly clashes with forces loyal to the moderate president.
On Sunday he suspended all contacts with Israel in protest at the blitz on the Gaza Strip that has killed 116 Palestinians, including 22 children and dozens of militants since Wednesday.
