St Petersburg - Chess legend turned Kremlin critic Garry Kasparov said on Monday that Russia's presidential election won by Dmitry Medvedev was "illegitimate."

"Medvedev is an illegitimate figure," Kasparov, a leader of the opposition movement The Other Russia, told journalists. "We do not recognise the legitimacy of Medvedev's instalment."
