Venezuela mobilises forces Fidel enters Colombia dispute Colombia's war of words

Brussels - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says the United States wants to see a diplomatic solution to the tension surrounding Colombia.

Tensions have risen in the region since Colombia's US-backed government launched a commando raid into neighbouring Ecuador last weekend, killing a key rebel leader and 23 other fighters at a base of the FARC rebel group.

Rice, speaking at a news conference on Thursday, said that the situation showed that everyone needed to be vigilant about the use of border areas by what she called a "terrorist organisation like the FARC."
