New York - The governor of New York, Eliot Spitzer reportedly told senior staff members on Monday that he had been involved in a prostitution ring. He was due to make a statement later.

According to the New York Times' website, Spitzer was huddled with his top aides and was set to make an announcement in New York City after earlier abruptly cancelling his scheduled public events for the day.

Spitzer, a former New York state attorney general, is a first-term Democrat who pledged to bring ethics reform during his term.

He is married with three children.
