Few support peace talks - poll
25/03/2008 19:14 - (SA)
Jerusalem - A new poll shows few Israelis or Palestinians support the peace talks between the sides.
The poll shows 53% of Israelis believe the peace talks now under way should be stopped. Only 39% say they support the talks.
Among Palestinians, opposition is even higher: 75%, with support at a mere 21%.
The poll also shows 84% of Palestinians supported a March 6 shooting attack by a Palestinian gunman in Jerusalem. That attack killed eight young students at a Jewish seminary.
On both sides, more than two-thirds believe the chances a Palestinian state will be established in the next five years are slim.
The poll published on Tuesday was carried out by two think tanks, one Israeli and one Palestinian.
